If your gums are sore, you probably despise brushing and flossing. You probably even experience bleeding gums every once in awhile. Typically, sore gums result from gingivitis and periodontal disease, and it’s important to do everything you can to restore the health of your gums. Our dentist, Dr. James Stanford, is happy to help you do so by giving you some tips.
The first thing you should do is reflect on your diet. Do you have a healthy and balanced diet? If not, it’s time to change your habits. It’s important to eat tooth-healthy foods and drink tooth-healthy drinks on a regular basis. Tooth-healthy foods and drinks can include products with Vitamin C and calcium.
The second thing you should do is make sure you have a top-notch oral hygiene routine. This should include brushing twice a day (make sure it’s with a soft-bristled toothbrush), flossing once a day, rinsing daily, and visiting your dentist every six months.
The third thing you should do is quit smoking if you smoke. This is a very important tip because tobacco and the other chemicals in cigarettes and other tobacco products can harm your gums more than you realize. So, please stop the habit as soon as possible.
